Ottawa Family Photographer :: An Urban Family!

When I met this family for the first time last year I was super excited that Candace wanted to go with an urban location. Because….do you want to know a little secret? Urban is my FAVORITE! Don’t get me wrong…parks and other outdoor locations are lovely too. But urban offers so much variety, so much uniqueness, grunge, texture…there are so many things I love about it. This year when I spoke with Candace about a family session, I was SO happy that she wanted to go urban once again. I love that we have the same taste and vision! The results reflect what I think, is a great client/photographer collaboration and thus, awesome photos!

These guys also happen to be one of the most fun, laid-back, easy-going families ever. Little Luc took a few minutes to warm up to me again but once he did he was all smiles. And a very handsome smile he has too. For real folks…give it a few more years and move over Justin Bieber! 😉

Thank you again Binette-Sherwood family for choosing me to photograph your wonderful family. As always, I take it as such a HUGE compliment when my clients return to me more than once for their family photos. My goal is that each and every client I work with has such a great experience that this will always be the case. 🙂

Ottawa Family Photographer :: Sweet Melody

I’ve always said that one of the things that’s most important to me in my business is to give back. Whether it be to my community, or just to an individual who’s circumstances and story are important to me – it was built into the plans for my business right from the get go. So when my friend Virginia Holst of Sweet Ginger Photography in Alberta emailed me about a friend who’s situation struck a chord with me, I couldn’t say YES fast enough.

I met with Melody and her family recently at the Ronald McDonald House here in Ottawa. At two years old, little Melody is fighting a battle that no child should ever have to – Leukemia. Fortunately, Melody is very brave girl with two wonderful, fun, nurturing parents who, without a doubt in my mind, are the reason for her strength, happiness and bravery. The way they love her, and love each other was clear from the moment I walked in the room. That is what I loved most about this session. The love and connection between the three of them was tangible. A love like that should never go un-celebrated, or un-documented.

Melody’s giggle was contagious. More than once I found myself struggling to keep the camera steady while shooting because I was laughing right along with her. She loves Dora, dollies and the colour pink so of course I had to seize the opportunity to photograph her on her bed with a few of her toys and those fantastic balloons! I can’t take credit for all of this laughter though. Dad did a pretty good job of being a clown behind the camera to get Melody cracking up. 😉

Thank you so much Jon, Krista and Melody, for having me out to capture these photos of your amazing family. I have thought about the three of you every day since our session and will no doubt continue to think about you for the days and months to come. xoxo

Ottawa Family Photographer: Zoe and Amelia

Being a Family Photographer in Ottawa comes with many perks. TONS, really. 😉 One of the biggest ones is getting to meet all sorts of families. Each and every one is unique and I love coming away from a session feeling as though my clients and I made a connection. Its important for me. I really want them to be happy and to be at ease with their choice in trusting me with their family memories. As an adoptive mom, I find it a little extra exciting when I’m contacted by a fellow adoptive family for photos. Maybe because I can relate to the joy, excitement, challenges and triumphs an adoptive family goes through – it just has that extra element of emotion for me. So when Zoe and Amelia’s Mom contacted me about fall family photos for her girls, I was thrilled. The subject of Amelia’s adoption from China and my own family’s adoptions from Ethiopia and here in Ontario gave us tons to talk about. 🙂

Things I loved about this session:

~ The perfect weather we had. Not too hot and not too cool. Thanks Mother Nature.

~ Little Zoe’s boundless energy. This little girl could RUN!

~ Amelia’s quick wit and hilarious questions. At many points during the session I COMPLETELY forgot I was talking to a 4 year old.

~ Mom’s bag of props. I love when parents come prepared with bribes, props and distraction tactics. With two young children its ALWAYS appreciated!

~ Both girl’s sweet, kind nature. Amelia (who looooved the camera) was a fantastic sport and is such a wonderful, patient big sister. Sweet sibling relationships are hands down, one of my absolute favorite things to see. 🙂

Thank you SO much Jodi, for choosing me to photograph your two adorable girls. I had a lot of fun on the weekend and sincerely hope I have the opportunity to see them (and you!) again!
