Right now I can think of about a million reasons to complain about the cooler temperatures. Just the fact that winter is on it’s way is typically enough to put me in a big old grump. When I have super fun sessions with super fun families like this though, it becomes impossible to be anything but happy. I love that my job connects me with people like this. On days when I’m feeling yucky in my personal life (or business life for that matter!), my clients always have the ability to lift me out of that funk and to show me that there is so much to smile about.
What I love almost as much as the photography portion of what I do is the ability to experience the unique dynamic between each family I photograph. This both fascinates and inspires me. The thought also crosses my mind that maybe my time spent with each family is an opportunity I’m given to make sense of the world around me. That’s a powerful thing. I may not be a world traveler, but what I am starting to learn more and more is that there is something so wonderful to be seen in the people right here in my own city, in my own back yard. In my 3 years of business, I’ve met all kinds of people. Some incredible, others…well, not as much. But even the difficult experiences I’ve encountered have taught me to really see and appreciate the people who value what I do. They really are what make my world go ’round!
What a fantastic family this was. Truly. The girls were perfection – beautiful, sweet little souls who each warmed up to me almost instantly. They behaved exactly as you’d expect of a 4 and 6 year old – fun, silly, giggly, sometimes cranky but always a pleasure. Max and Lisa were wonderful as well. I sensed a closeness about them that seemed extra special that evening and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture it. I loved the way they loved each other and the girls. Pure magic 🙂
Thank you so much to the lovely Bryson family for trusting me to capture these memories of the four of you. You are a reminder of how wonderful it is to do what I do. 🙂
If you had been thinking about booking a Fall family photo session with Ottawa Family Photographer, Danielle Lynn Photography, contact me today! Space is very limited for the remainder of the Fall 2012 season but I would love to discuss the possibilities with your family!
This lovely family contacted me as the winners of a mini photo session gift certificate that I supplied to Woodroffe Public School to help raise funds for new playground equipment. Kelly is friends with previous clients of mine so I was happy to hear I’d have the opportunity to meet them and their sweet kids Una and Finn for a fall family session! I love this time of year. Everywhere you turn are beautiful, colourful fall leaves. It makes for the most beautiful background. Una and Finn were adorable too. Una took a bit of time to warm up but once she did the smiles and her adorable little scrunched up nose were worth the wait! 🙂
A big thank you to the Roy family for the opportunity to photograph you! I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving weekend and please stay tuned to the blog for more fall family session blog posts to come! LOTS of family sessions happening in the month of October!

Something that surprised me a lot when I first entered this business was how well everyone in the photography industry gets along, even people who are local to each other. I’m not sure what I expected, really. But it’s a big community…and quite frankly it’s one with the potential for a lot of toe-stepping and not so nice competition. I’m so grateful to have had (mostly) positive experiences with other photographers. Some of my dearest friends are photographers! And one of the first photographers in Ottawa that I had the pleasure of meeting in person was Genevieve. Sweet Genevieve. With her smile (and heart) bigger than anyone’s I know and her laughter contagious, she is someone I am grateful to call a friend. She’s also the incredibly talented wedding and engagement photographer behind Fifteen-FiftyOne Photography
Last time I had the pleasure of photographing Gen’s family at the graffiti wall (get a load of how tiny Hudson was here
). They were only a family of three back then, but I knew it wouldn’t be long until they were a family of four (she may have spilled the beans to me that day that they were expecting #2!). So this was my first time photographing them as a complete family and it was a wonderful experience. In fact, this was another session where we actually spent very little time moving around from spot to spot and more time focused on documenting fun and allowing the family to create moments. I think that’s what I loved most about it.
Gen, Steve, Hudson and Avery – thank you so much for asking me again to capture your family! I had such a fun time and I sincerely hope we have the chance to do this again next year!
